If you must blink, do it now

I didn’t expect this piece to be emotional.  But as I fleshed out my sketch, the painting spoke to me and reminded me of a very low point in my career.  My parents had always been strict and difficult.  I thought they would turn their backs to me because I had failed them and lost their faith in me.  Yet, they were unbelievably supportive.  They were patient, kind, and nurturing, even as I struggled.  Their love and support re-cultivated me from a disappointing hot mess to who I am today.  I attribute everything I am to my parents.  

So kids, even if you feel like you're in a dark place, it helps to be open with your parents.  Your parents do love you and do want the best for you. Even if you aren't in a dark place, please appreciate all that they do for you.   Parenthood is no easy feat.

Aside from that depressing note, Kubo and the Two Strings was a phenomenal animation.  As soon as I saw the contest advertisement, I could hear the strum of the shamisen from Spektor's While my Guitar Gently Weeps and couldn't help but enter.  My goal was to make it into a digital tapestry by meshing fully rendered 3D subjects against a flat 2D background.  Not sure if it worked out that way.  Regardless, I poured a bit of my soul into this one and hope you all enjoy!
